The loop at Russian Gulch State Park in Mendocino County winds through temperate rainforest with second-growth redwoods, ferns, moss-laden maples, and a creek. A 36-foot waterfall drops into a rocky bowl with benches. The 8-mile loop has 542 feet of elevation gain, moderate but slick or steep near the falls, with butterflies and river otters.
