About
Jug Handle State Natural Reserve sits on Highway 1 between Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Its Ecological Staircase climbs five marine terraces shaped by uplift and sea-level change, passing coastal prairie, redwood forest, and pygmy forest of stunted trees. The reserve has a deep sandy cove beach, bluffs, an arched bridge, and Jug Handle Creek with bogs and insectivorous plants.
